Lana Del Rey – Video Games EP (Review)

‘The item you pre-ordered, Video Games – EP by Lana Del Rey, is now available.’

This is the message that greeted me when I checked my e-mails last night. After hearing ‘Video Games’ online a number of days ago I couldn’t wait to download the EP. And what an EP it is. What a voice.

  1. Video Games
  2. Blue Jeans
  3. Video Games (Mr Fingers Remix)
  4. Video Games (Omid 16B Remix)

‘Video Games’ is the first of two new tracks on the EP. The track is one of those songs which continues to stay in your head no matter what, resulting in you pressing the ‘repeat item’ button on iTunes. The melodies over the chords used are absolutely sublime and never fail to give you goosebumps, no matter how many times you listen to the song. ‘Blue Jeans’ is the second new song and the vocals remind me a lot of Nina Persson from The Cardigans which is no bad thing at all. Its a cracking tune which is more upbeat than the previous but has the same message. Love.

The next two tracks are remixes by other artists of ‘Video Games’ which is the only real disappointment on the EP. I’d have preferred having four original tracks as remixes aren’t really needed, are they?

I love this EP. The songs are so fresh and her voice is absolutely unbelievable. Her London show apparently sold out in 30 minutes which I’m gutted about, but it’s understandable given her massive talent.
