This is the new single from the Foo Fighters, and it’s fantastic. Their past couple of albums haven’t been as good compared to their 90’s work but this track definitely harps back to those great recordings. The album itself will be released on the 12th April, and it was produced by Butch Vig. He’s a big name, having produced some fantastic 90’s albums like ‘Siamese Dream’ by The Smashing Pumpkins and most notably ‘Nevermind’ by Nirvana. This is the first time that Grohl and Vig have worked together since that album.
The track opens with two guitars and a lot of echo, which at first seems very wrong due to the time signature. But when the band kicks in it all comes together with a classic Foo Fighters riff. It’s brilliant, and definitely one of their best tracks since their album ‘One By One’ was released nearly 9 years ago. You can listen to it here:
Everything about this song just screams out Foo Fighters, which can’t be said for the last two albums. On those albums they seemed to stray from their ‘sound’, but they regain it here. The track could easily fit on ‘One My One’ as well as ‘The Colour And The Shape’ which is arguably their best album. But if this one track is anything to go by then the new album ‘Wasting Light’ should be a cracker, I can’t wait to hear it.
